All Boardwalk games can run in the Treenimation environment and vice versa (except Boardwalk will not support 3D animation). All Treenimation games are web-based, and run in most web browsers.
All avid Treenimation gamers who need to know their ratings/rankings in every game they play are charged $18/year (or $10 for 6 months). Let's assume that Treenimation eventually becomes popular, and I can sign up 1000 paying members. Then the gross income of Treenimation would be $18,000/year, plus whatever income can be generated from advertising.
My collaborator, Jake Beard, whose main job is developing Treenimation, would get 10 percent of the gross, or $1800/year. OLPC would receive a donation of 25 percent of the gross, or $4500/year (enough to pay for over 25 XO Laptops per year). I myself would receive 50 percent of what's left over, after paying expenses such as web hosting fees. Owners of intellectual property (such as board game designers) included in the Treenimation game library would receive the other 50 percent. Let's assume that expenses come to 40 percent of the gross, or $7200/year. Then I would receive 50 percent of what's left over, which comes to $2250/year. The remainder (the other 50 percent), or $2250/year, would be distributed to the intellectual property owners.
The fact that 25 percent of the gross income of Treenimation.net is donated to a worthy cause (OLPC) can be used to encourage Treenimation users to become paying members. Not only do they receive the privilege of knowing their ratings/rankings for every game they play, the contribution of their membership fees helps schoolchildren in developing countries obtain access to technology (the XO Laptop), making the educational experience of those schoolchildren that much more enjoyable and productive.
