Boardwalk is an open source software tool used for developing multiplayer
board games (a future version may add support for games with 2D animation).
Boardwalk runs under Linux and will be implemented in Python. The target
platform of Boardwalk is the OLPC
laptop. OLPC stands for One Laptop Per Child,
a project which aims to distribute millions of $175 laptops to
schoolchildren in developing countries. Each laptop runs Linux and is
equipped with peer-to-peer networking. The Windows version of Boardwalk is
called Treenimation.
Using the built-in Treescript scripting language, developers can create
almost any board game imaginable (a future version may allow games to be
written in Python as well as Treescript). Non-programmers can create
drag-and-drop board games, and programmers can add functionality to these games.
